About this formation
With this flexible 4-4-2 you have the option of under/overlaps with the full-backs depending on who is playing. In addition, you take some of Kroos' defensive responsibilities and shift them to Modric(Illaramendi), due to Benitez heavy rotational style. This also helps everyone play regularly, and gives balance to the team. Bale should be given the freedom to roam the left, where he played his best for Spurs. With James/Isco being able to work with the right-back constantly, the midfield pass-masters should never feel a lack of options. Ronaldo's days of wing-play are not over, since his advanced position as a forward is basically a free roam. But playing him as a forward will release Bale from having to constantly be in the shadow of his opposite winger. The main point here is that through Benitez rotating a lot, we can adapt a 4-4-2 to become a 5-3-2, 4-2-3-1 or a 4-2-4 and a host of other combinations. Let's see what happens, but this is the formation I came up with by tinkering with FIFA15 and FM15 for the past 6 months.
