About this formation

Centred around a strong back three of Jagielka and Stones with Noble in front. While Noble hasn't been capped at senior level, his form this year has been impeccable. A real ball winner, willing to put his body on the line, with good distribution to the attackers. Jagielka, while perhaps not as gifted as Smalling, provides experience and maturity (something England always seem to lack) and slots well along side a young but excellent John Stones. This strength in the centre allows the wing backs to get forward and provide width up field. Walker chosen over Clyne predominately for pace (which could be deadly on the same flank as Walcott!). Baines, again, is level headed and experienced.

Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy's inclusion is self explanatory, while both are offering so much it would be absurd to play just one striker. Kane provides not only goals but also great hold up play, a top class work rate and genuine passion. Vardy's pace and shooting precision are strong attributes and, although only proved at the top level for one season, if his form continues, no reason that he shouldn't start at the Euros.

Dele Alli has been phenomenal for Spurs this season, links exceptionally with Harry Kane and, similar to Vardy, there is currently no reason to suggest he wouldn't be able to replicate this for England. Sterling's inclusion requires little explanation: skilful, quick and resourceful. Walcott, to my mind, is the most questionable. It's true he prefer to play down the middle but his pace on the wing could prove crucial if England are struggling to break down one of Europe's strongest defences.

Joe Hart gets the nod over Jack Butland. While Butland has been in great form, Joe Hart has the superior previous major tournament experience.

Luke Shaw (instead of Baines) is a possibility depending on his recovery and game time.
Wilshere (over Noble) a possibility although Noble's form this season should not be overlooked.

Butland, Clyne, Smalling, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rooney, Austin (subs)
Forster, Dier, Bertrand, Cahill, Carrick, Milner, Ibe (squad)
