The midfielders must have the physical discipline to be moving up and down the pitch to defend at attack. The wide midfielders must overlap their corresponding wingers to create chances for a cross as the winger has the ability to overlap again or run backwards into space in front of goal. The wide midfielders must also to defend to create an overload of defenders (5) so that there is hardly any exploitation in the defense. The two central midfielders must be able to recooperate the ball by slowing down the oncoming midfielders or strikers. They also work as support for the wide midfielders, wingers, and striker by pushing forwards and creating an overload just in case a midfielder from the other team drops into defense. This means that a man will always be free in attack. The striker can serve as a target man, staying inside or making diagonal runs for the wingers. They may also rotate positions with the wingers to create more confusion for personal markers. There are three central defenders but the one higher up the pitch is one that can push forward and start creating the attack. This will help the overload. In defense, this man must be able to anticipate the oncoming target man while the two central midfielders try to slow the man down or need someone to open up for a pass. This CB can be considered as a CDM but they must aid the 2 other CB's when the ball is deep into their territory. When this has happened the CB (CDM) will shift into the line with the other 2 CB's making a traditional 3 at the back line. The keeper is considered a sweeper keeper keeping a high line to also aid the last 2 men when defending.
