About this formation

Pompey was a team everyone had to love under Redknapp. They were exciting to watch, great under dogs to cheer for during their F.A cup run and just full of likable players. I also liked the under Avram Grant, who I thought did a good job under the circumstances. The line up is mostly based on the team they had success with under Harry. A strong back 5 with some players who were no longer wanted from the bigger clubs and proved their worth in this team. Diarra and Muntari were 2 players that just clicked, forming a tough line in front of the defence. Dindane needs no explanation and neither does Kranjcar really. The strikers was a tough one as there were a few to choose from. I decided to go with the Yak though, who is one of their all time highest scorers and a good servant to the club. I also decided upon Benjani, as I felt his work rate, likability and often underrated goal input represented what Pompey was all about at this time. Honourable mentions are aplenty, including Distin, Boateng, Mendes, Utaka, Lualua, Crouch, Defoe and Kanu (who was in until the last minute). The captain has to be Primus for me. He was originally told he wasn't good enough for League 1, let alone the PL, and proved everyone wrong. He was then dropped and fought his way back into the side to become instrumental on their successful run, as one of their best players. A captain who leads by example! As much as I would like to give Avram a place in this PL, it wouldn't be right not to give Harry Redknapp the charge of this team under the circumstances.
