This 4123 is a variation of a 433 that gives the rcm a more free role as a playmaker. The lw should be an inverted winger, cutting inside whilst the Lwb uses the space left behind to get in behind the opposing rb and put the ball in the box. The rw should be a right-footed player so he can cross. The lcm should be a capable passer of the ball, distributing both close and across the pitch to the rw. The cdm should be a strong defensive presence whilst also having a reliable amount of pace. The striker is the centrepiece of the formation, as he is the man who will be ready for feed from all five players who are supporting him on the attack, the Lwb, lcm, rcm, lw and rw. He must be relatively strong and tall, but also must be quick off the ball. These all combine for a beautiful, authentic style of football that can often be seen at the top of the game. The players that I chose suit the roles effectively.
