About this formation

You have 3 forwards. One of them should(but does not have to) play a false 9 role. So they drop back in midfield to keep possession and they can start runs from midfield. Another forward stays up front and tries to find space between defenders to latch onto a through ball and get 1-on-1s. The other attacker will have to be able to run fast so they can attack and defend and make transitions between the two. Then you have the midfielders. There is one organizing everything. That person should be the one to be the link between offense and defense. You have an attacking midfielder. He comes to defend once in a while but he is usually there to make through balls or aid the attack. Also you have a defensive mid. He fills in the large gap between the two center backs when the two fullbacks attack. He also can stay behind to help the defense and get the ball to the opposition's half. Then you have the two fullbacks. One (the one that can run fast and possesses good chemistry with the forward(s) ) should go attack on the counter and try to remain defending. the other fullback should remain defending more but only attack when a real opportunity is visible. The two centerbacks should stay back at all times and maybe attack during a set piece (corner, free-kick,etc.) Last but not least the goalkeeper should make sure the ball does not end up in the back of the net!
