About this formation
Sunderland have been assured of at least a play-off place and this is the formation and team that Jack Ross has been using. In the defensive line, Cattermole and Power have been dropping back, which allows Loovens and Öztürk to drift further out wide so that Oviedo and Matthews have been allowed to get forward and support McGeady and Maguire in attack and deliver inch-perfect crosses in towards Ball. Honeyman also tends to drop off slightly to aid in defence.
