About this formation

I think if I had a full compliment Id go with this side as my initial first team.

This system is similar to the purple patch just a bit more solid with an extra man in midfield.

It allows Brayford room to overlap down the right, one of the 3 midfelders will drop in behind him, all one of the forwards needs to do is pull out wide to get the attention of their full back then make his way back into the box taking the said fullback with him giving Brayford a clean run to the byline, like he used to! Its very difficult to deal with, the opponents wide player will have to go with him, which is exactly what we want their wide players to be doing, defending!

We need a player with a similar engine at left back, Roberts is a 442 man and past his best which was only ever an average championship player anyway.

The three in midfield are all capable of winning the ball and keeping the ball, all capable of covering the overlapping full back, all capable of picking out a pass to one of the many players who should be moving around him. We have three in midfield!, If someone goes 442 we can outnumber them in midfield, if someone goes with 5 in midfield we can deal with that too.

Three up front!, cast your minds back to Jim Smiths promotion side, Willems played just off Sturridge and Gabbiadini, they were not wide forwards! they were forwards and gave us plenty for the opposition to think about, they moved left they moved right, they worked hard, they were almost impossible for back fours to cope with. It amazes me that Clough cannot see that this system would be better all round than the rubbish he's been failing with all these years.

We'd have the likes of Hendrick, Addison, Tyson, Ball and Obrien on the bench.

Id personally never have a sub keeper either, I think its a risk worth taking given the odds of something going wrong, even if it did, you'd just have to deal with it for whatever period of that one game was left, the extra striker or body in midfield is far more likely to come in useful.

Any thoughts?
