About this formation
4-4-2 diamond It spreads the wide players about and creates space for slick fluid passing. The wingbacks can also overlap the wide midfielders allowing for much more lethal flank attacks. The defensive midfielder and two centre backs very rarely go forward they close down any opposing players in their own half. Which at times makes this formation operate with a 3 man defence when the rest of the team are pushing forward.
