Benzema is unreliable and James Rodiguez is better than him as far as finishing and creativity are concerned. The mid-field is not as defensively sound as it would be with Xabi Alonso (too old), Illaramendi or Khedira; so extra cover is needed in defense. Di Maria provides that on the right and is back on the wings as he prefers. Marcelo is too attacking and not as defensively solid as Coentrao, who will be on the left. Kroos can play on either wing as he does with Germany and will fit in behind Ronaldo. This system fits all the best players.
