Having these 2 instead of a flat 4, or just 1 defensive midfielder makes it more difficult for opponents to penetrate. There is a triangle (taylor, thompson, ez) and all three of these players can rotate, 2 midfielders can get forward but commiunication is really important; one must be back at all times. Wide players can also be used to get forward but they have to help out in defense. No. 10 player can link up with the forward, who has freedom to roam.
