Arsenal Formation 2014

Arsenal Football Formation

Creation DateNovember 27, 2014

Lineup (5-3-2)

Sanchez · Giroud · Oxlade-Chamberlain · Podolski · Cazorla · Ramsey · Rosicky · Chambers · Gibbs · Mertesacker · szczney

The formation is technically a 3-2-3-2. The idea behind it is to take full advantage of our number in attacking players, but at the same time cover for the lack in defenders at the moment. Having two defensive midfielders will allow for greater depth and defense on the field. We are generally weakest when attacking as our opponents tend to score most goals on the counter. Having more players in a defensive-minded position will help with that. Ramsey and Rosicky who are both in form right now, not injured, would take the central midfield roles as we are lacking in the back at the moment. In the future, when injuries are less prevalent we could have Chambers and Koscielny be the two defensive midfielders, having both proven to be lethal when attacking before, working centrally where they excel, and with Mertesacker as well. Debuchy could then take the right fullback position.

From there we then can focus on having more players up front. We have an exceptionally talented group of strikers, and we should most definitely take advantage of that. As much as I want to play Welbeck, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been more impressive the past games and been exceptionally consistent. This thus gave reason to put Sanchez up front alongside Giroud, our two most pronounced goal scorers whom I believe could make quite the pair. With Ozil out, I would pull the little magician, Cazorla, inwards to play centrally, and finally give Podolski a fighting chance in our squad on the left side. In the future I would switch Cazorla with Ozil and the Ox with Walcott up front. Podolski I may or may not switch with Cazorla depending on how he performs on the left wing in this position, but I have a feeling he will perform very well here especially when it is more attacking-minded for a midfield position.

Our greatest problem has been that we are letting far too many goals in and not having the greatest number of chances on the attacking end. This formation, if played correctly would allow for both a stronger defense, in terms of numbers (5 men versus 4) and the ability to push forwards without giving up a back line, and a stronger offensive line as we have plenty of strikers who all can finish, but not enough spaces to fill them. This formation will bring a new dynamic to Arsenal and can work.
