Gives a bit of defensive solidity while putting more attacking players on the pitch.

Basically, Gerrard and Can become extra defenders, with Gerrard being the most deep lying of them.

Back 4 can shift left to right depending on the flank of the attack. Attacks through the middle meet a twosome of DMs who can break up the attack.

Gerrard can do his quarterback thing here, and has 3 really quick players he can hit on the counter. Coutinho is also in there to supply the quick incisive passes when needed.
