I chose this formation because I think it is necessary to have at least 4 defenders. 2 can defend crosses coming in from either wing and the 2 centre backs can defend the other teams offence. I chose 4 midfielders because I think it is necessary to have 4 players holding down the middle of the pitch so forwards and defenders have plenty of outlets and choices to move the ball efficiently. Since a team needs at least 4 midfielders and defenders this leaves you with 2 attackers, if they are skilled enough and get the right balls from midfield they will be able to make it through the opponents defence and score goals.
