The back line is solid with fast half backs. In addition, in the midfield, you have two strong central midfielders who can make space with the ball and take it from the back line. Then you can play it to either Bale of Ronaldo who can both run at the defensive line and play in a good cross. It's a balance of speed, and pure skill. Then you have Messi playing a little behind David Villa so he can play those nice long runs that he likes to do with the 1-2s all over the place and run to the box. Villa is a target closer to the box and won't pick up the ball close to the half like Messi. In that way, you have essentially 3 types of threats: Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale who will run at the right and left backs, lionel messi who will pick up the ball a little further up the field and run at the center backs, and Villa who will be waiting for the opportunity in or close to the box.
