I won't go into discussing the players chosen, waste of time really since everyone has their own oppinion, but regarding the formation:
Zola is deployed as a second striker on the left so he can come inside and create with Lampard while allowing Ashley Cole to overlap. In the back, Makelele will cover for Cole's overlaps. On the other side of the pitch, Steve Clarke isn't really the player to go forward, so the witdh down that wing is provided by Joe Cole. Wise brings energy to the midfield and Lampard and Drogba do what they know best upfront.
