Arsenal Formation 2011

Arsenal Football Formation

Creation DateJuly 5, 2011

Lineup (4-2-1-3)

Wojiech Szczesny · Thomas Vermaelen · Johan Djourou · Fabio Coentrao · Bacary Sagna · Alex Song · Aaron Ramsey · Jack Wilshere · Samir Nasri · Robin van Persie · Radamel Falcao

Szczesny has proven his abilities to he a world-class shot-stopper, so I would stick with him, because in order to develop his abilities, he needs confidence. As a back-up to him, Fabianski showed before injury that he can be depended upon.

Vermaelen is the leader in the defence Arsenal have always needed, and hopefully the captain next season. He can form a great partnership with Djourou, who is very good in the air, and showed his stability last season. However, if injuries do hit, the ideal replacement for Djourou would be Samba, who could possibly even start ahead of Djourou, whereas Vermaelen is more of a ball-playing defender, much like Cahill. So Cahill could be back-up to Vermaelen. Koscielny himself did a decent job if you ask me. Bacary Sana on the left is a machine. He can cross, he has pace, and he can fall back in time and make crucial saves. He also has great tactical awareness, and so he is a must on the right flank.
Clichy's replacement should be someone like Sagna. Coentrao shows great promise, for me.

The midfield trio of Song, Wilshere and Ramsey will be used in such a way that at all times, there is a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a central mid, who links up. Song MUST always stay as CDM, whereas Ramsey must stay CM. However, Nasri and Wilshere can keep rotating from CAM to LAM, while Wilshere can also help in defence, given his passion and energy. Scott Parker could come on for Ramsey to stabilize the midfield and to win balls more.

RvP from the right can keep cutting in and curling in more, whereas Falcao can play as a out-and-out striker, to head the ball, score from long range or to tap in.. name it. He can do them all.

This is a very fluid formation and can also be seen as a 4-3-3, or a 4-5-1 or a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-1-2-3 or a 4-1-5-1, all depending upon the players' willingness to rotate flanks often and the team's attacking/defensive strategies.
