Manchester United Football Formation
Lineup (4-1-2-3)
De Gea (Romero) · Bailly (Jones/Smalling) · Rojo (Lindelof) · Shaw (NEW LB) · Valencia (NEW RB) · Matic (NEW DM) · NEW RCM (Herrera) · Pogba (McTomminay) · Martial (Lingard) · Sanchez (NEW RW) · Lukaku (Rashford)To get the best out of our key players, Mourinho HAS to play Pogba as LCM in a 3 man midfield.
In this system we would need a NEW RCM who can create (the archetypal player would be De Bruyne - but that obviously won't happen... so someone like a Wilshere or Saul Niguez - SN being my preferred signing).
In this line-up, Matic protects the defence, allowing Shaw and Valencia to bomb forward and offer more width on the overlap. This in turn allows Martial and Sanchez to cut inside (as both like to do). Pogba and the NEW RCM (ideally Saul Niguez) need to be able to offer creative support to the attack, moving wide/forward as gaps open up, but also be able to come back and offer defensive support when possession is lost.
Martial HAS to play on the left to get the best out of him, and therefore, Sanchez should play on the right, with the freedom to roam/cut inside.
With this in mind, I would like to see United invest in the following positions in the Summer:
- NEW LB (to challenge Shaw)
- NEW RB (to challenge Valencia)
- NEW DM (to replace Carrick & cover Matic)
- NEW RCM (Ideally Saul Niguez, or Wilshere/Isco/etc)
- NEW RW (to offer competition/options out wide)
- I would also suggest that we might need a new CB if Mourinho decides he doesn't have faith in Smalling, Jones or Rojo... If one has to go, I would sell Smalling over Jones/Rojo.
With this in mind, I would release/sell:
- Young, Blind, Smalling, Darmian, Fellaini, Mata and Ibrahimovic.
(Mata being the one player in that list that might be worth keeping)
