The defense with cole and panucci as fullabacks and central pairing of Augenthaler-Bonucci gives a solid defense first with not an insignificant help to the attack with marauding runs on the flanks by the full backs.
This formation is made in mind with the fact that the opponent has a formidable defense and needs a player like Baggio to unlock it. Lothar and Pirlo give it a defensive balance.
The subs are Kerkhof, Lampard and Inzaghi. Kerkhof is a great dutch of his time who gives ample attacking options in stead of candreva. Lampard can infuse some more attack to the mid if required and would be brought in for Pirlo. Inzaghi would be a sub for Del Piero.
