Tottenham Hotspur Football Formation
Lineup (4-2-3-1)
LLoris · King · Vertongen · Assou-Ekotto · Walker · Modric · Paulinho · Erikson · Bale · Son · KaneProbably the hardest team I have made yet (I changed the team again at the very last minute), I definitely feel Spurs need to be in this league though as they have been pushing for a Champions League position for some time now. Over the years they have had an abundance of great attacking midfielders, some very good strikers, but a little less defensively and in the holding midfield role. Campbell was the hardest defender to leave out, and nearly made it into the team, I decided at the last minute to go with King though as I wanted to create a balanced, competitive league, figuring Portsmouth needed him more (they don't have a Ledley King instead). Assou-Ekotto was in for a while, then I dropped him in favour for a back 3, then at the last minute felt the team lacked any width and put him back in. Walkers pace on the right, King and Vertongen's strength and consistency made them obvious CB choices for me. To cover the back 4 I opted for 2 holding midfielders, Modric was always going in there (and is a large part of the reason for the formation), but I wanted another player who could allow Modric to get forward sometimes and make the plays. I always like Paulinho's playing style and feel his energy and ball winning abilities, as well as skills, would create a good partnership with Modric and inject some energy into that area of the pitch. The 4 in front of them I feel speak for themselves. I don't like Bale but he didn't get the price tag and the move to Real for nothing. Erikson is one of the smartest and more gifted players in that position there is and Son's versatility, energy and selflessness will link up nicely. I also feel those 3 are very interchangeable, creating a nightmare for man marking and offering a variety of attacking options. Kane I feel is sometimes underrated (probably due to being English). Not only is his goal rate outstanding, but he can scored with both feet, his head, inside and outside the box and links up very well with the players behind him. There were a lot of honourable mentions and strong considerations. Defoe was in right until the last minute, I had to sacrifice him for Essou-Ekotto, which pained me greatly as I like Defoe a lot (he's definately on the bench!), there is Carr (supremely consistent), Van der Vaart (who was in my early line up), Lennon (he was excellent when he came onto the scene), Keane (needs no explaining), Ian Walker, Michael Carrick and many more. Captaincy would go to Ledley King I think, providing he can stay fit. The manager is a tough one, but I would go for Pochettino. A Champions League Final and Premier League contenders for 2 seasons is as good as it has been for Spurs.
