Real Madrid C.F. Football Formation
Lineup (3-4-2-1)
Courtois · Militao · Alaba · Rüdiger · Tchouameni · Vinicius · Valverde · Brahim · Camavinga · Bellingham · JoseluThis formation is a midfield-heavy formation that, despite the initial look, it's mostly defensive-minded.
In this formation, the three centerbacks chosen are specifically picked because of their pace, that allows them to cover in counterattack scenarios.
The defensive midfielder, in this case Tchouameni, is supposed to stay back in the attack (hovering around the middle of the pitch). In counterattacks he should be in charge of covering the player with the ball.
The wings should be covered by Valverde and Camavinga, due to their defensive prowess, but they should also get involved in the attack.
Brahim, Vinicius and Bellingham should be in charge of the attacking creativity and should have free-roam. Able to move freely and create chances due to their 1-on-1 capabilities.
The striker role, Joselu in this case, should be operated by a traditional striker, capable of winning headers from crosses from the wings, able to receive the ball with the back against the defenders and combine with the other attacking players, and make cuts in between the defenders to get 1-on-1 chances against the keeper.
This formation requires discipline on defense, especially in the wings, but also allows players to be creative and play freely on the counter. It works especially in the case of Real Madrid due to the high amount of quality midfielders they have that can both attack and defend.
