Serbia prefers a vertical style of play that focuses on directness and power, utilizing a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents in the central areas and use the physical presence of the front two to pin back defensive lines. By staying compact and making quick movements, the team aims to catch opponents out of position during transitions.

Đorđe Petrović starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back three consists of Strahinja Pavlović, Milinko Veljković, and Nikola Milenković. Milenković and Pavlović act as the wide centre-backs to cover the space behind the wing-backs, while Veljković acts as the central figure to win the header and command the box. This unit functions as a narrow defensive block that shifts to protect the middle, forcing opponents to play wide.

The midfield operates with a strong central presence to control the tempo. Sergej Milinković-Savić plays as an attacking ten, looking to arrive late into the box and use his immense strength to hold up the ball. Beside him, Luka Lukic and Ilija Ilić form a double pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Filip Kostić and Aleksandar Živković act as the wide midfielders, providing width by pushing up the flanks to support the attack.

Up front, Serbia uses two strikers in a partnership to create constant pressure. Captain Aleksandar Mitrović acts as the primary target man, using his aerial strength and physical presence to lead the line. Dušan Vlahović plays alongside him, often making runs in behind to exploit gaps in the defence. This duo works to link up play between the lines, often drawing defenders out of position to allow the attacking midfielders to strike.

One major advantage of this formation for Serbia is the ability to create numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. The combination of the double pivot and the attacking ten allows the team to squeeze the space and win the second ball effectively. Additionally, the wing-backs provide wide overloads, which helps to stretch the defence and create space for the two strikers to operate in one on one situations.

This formation relies on physical dominance and direct play to break down opponents. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and can be punished on the transition.
