Starting Lineup

Boca aims to control the middle of the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to play with a heavy central presence and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition. By using a three man midfield core alongside two attacking players, the team seeks to dominate the central areas and use quick transitions to punish opponents.

Romero starts between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back three where Medel acts as the central anchor to win the second ball and command the area. Figal plays as the right centre back to cover the space behind the winger, while Rojo operates as the left centre back with his ability to intercept passes. This trio works together to maintain a compact shape, often dropping into a low block when the team loses possession to deny space behind them.

In the center of the pitch, Boca employs a three man midfield with a carrier and two players to control the tempo. Equi sits in the middle to shield the defence and disrupt the opposition play. Medina works alongside him to drive forward with the ball and link the defensive line to the attack. Zenon operates in the hole as an attacking ten, looking to play through the lines and find the forwards. The midfield unit connects the ball from the back three to the front line, ensuring the team can recycle possession effectively.

The attacking unit features two forwards working in a partnership to create constant pressure. Cavani leads the line as a pressing centre forward, using his movement to pull defenders out of position and find space in the channels. Merentiel plays alongside him to fight for long balls and arrive late into the box. On the flanks, Advincula and Blanco act as wing backs to provide width. Advincula pushes forward to overlap the midfielders, while Blanco stays wide to deliver crosses and stretch the defence.

This formation provides Boca with several tactical advantages. The central trio of Equi, Medina, and Zenon allows for numerical superiority in midfield, making it hard for opponents to play through the middle. The wide presence of Advincula and Blanco creates wide overloads, forcing the opposition to pull players out of their defensive block. Furthermore, the presence of Cavani and Merentiel allows the team to break quickly on the transition, hitting opponents in behind when they are caught high up the pitch.
