Qatar National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
MOTASEM (AL BUSTAMI) · YOUSEF (AYMAN) · MOHAMED (AL RABIEI) · SULTAN (AL-BRAKE) · AHMAD (AL SEBAI) · AHMED (AL SAYED) · MUBARAK (AL-NASSER) · YOUSSEF (ALI) · AMRO (SURAG) · SEBASTIÁN (SORIA) · ISMAEEL (MOHAMMAD)Qatar aims to play a high intensity, vertical style of football using a 3-4-3 formation. The team focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition off guard. By using a wide attacking lineup, the side looks to stretch the defence and create quick chances in transition. This method allows the squad to move the ball forward rapidly once they regain control.
MOTASEM operates as the goalkeeper to guide the defensive line. The defensive unit relies on a back three consisting of MOHAMED, YOUSEF, and SULTAN. MOHAMED holds the centre as a dominant defender in the air to clear the lines. YOUSEF and SULTAN act as wide centre backs who cover the channels and step up to squeeze the space. This back three can defend zonally and shift as a unit to block the runner.
The midfield consists of a four man unit designed to control the tempo. AHMED and MUBARAK play in the central areas to protect the back three and bridge the gap to the forwards. AHMED works to deny the pivot and shield the defence, while MUBARAK seeks to carry the ball forward and link the play. On the wings, YOUSSEF and AHMAD provide necessary width. YOUSSEF tracks back to help the defence, whereas AHMAD pushes high to support the attack. This midfield group works to recycle possession and play through the lines.
The front three provide the primary goal threat. SEBASTIÁN acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. AMRO and ISMAEEL play as wide attackers to pull the opposition wide. AMRO often looks to cut inside to create space, while ISMAEEL tries to get to the byline and deliver early crosses. These forwards press from the front to force a long ball and create chances through quick combinations.
A major strength for Qatar is the ability to press in coordinated waves. The front three and the midfield can squeeze the space to win it back high up the pitch. Another advantage is the creation of wide overloads. When AHMAD and AMRO work together, they can isolate a one on one situation against the opposing full back. This formation also allows for rapid speed of transition when moving from a mid block to an attacking phase.
This 3-4-3 formation creates a very aggressive identity that relies on winning the second ball. It is a lineup best suited for facing opponents that struggle with high pressing and quick vertical movement.
