By using a central heavy core, the team aims to dominate games through verticality and strength in the half-spaces.

Yann Sommer plays between the posts to anchor the defensive unit. The back three consists of Acerbi, Bastoni, and Pavard who maintain a high line to squeeze the space. Acerbi acts as the central pillar to win the header and clear the lines, while Bastoni works as a ball playing defender to start the build up. Pavard provides cover and can step into midfield to help recycle possession. This defensive unit works together to maintain a compact shape and catch opponents offside.

The midfield relies on a three man midfield with a carrier and a deep lying playmaker. Çalhanoglu sits in front of the defense to shield the back three and dictate the tempo with his passing range. Barella works tirelessly to connect the lines and arrives late into the box to support the attack. Mkhitaryan plays in the half spaces to link the play and find the feet of the striker. The wide areas are occupied by Di Marco and Dumfries, who act as attacking wing backs to provide width and deliver early crosses.

Inter utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. Lautaro and Thuram work as a mobile duo, with Thuram using his pace to run in behind the defense. Lautaro acts as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opposition. They often combine in tight spaces to pull the defenders out of position. The movement of the wing backs allows for overlaps that create situations where the forwards can isolate a one on one wide.

The tactical advantages of this formation include numerical superiority in midfield and wide overloads from the wing backs. By having five players in the middle, Inter can easily win the second ball and control the rhythm. The ability to shift between a back three and a back five during transition makes them hard to break down. They also use the speed of transition to hit teams on the break with sudden vertical passes.
