Théo and Clause operate as wide players to provide width, while Griezman sits in the hole as an attacking ten to create from deep and find the feet of the striker.

In the final third, France employs a lone striker in Giroud who acts as a target man. Griezman plays as a second striker in the hole to link play between the lines. Théo and Clause stretch the defence by pulling wide and offering outlets for a cross. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball. The team looks to play through the lines with Griezman, using him to lay it off for runners or whip it in to Giroud.
