Changchun relies on a high press and verticality within a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents in transition. By committing so many players forward, the team looks to dominate the central areas and force quick turnovers to exploit disorganized defensive lines.

Robert Beric acts as the last line of defense, often required to sweep behind a high line when the team loses possession. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two with Wang Jinxian and Liu Yun acting as the primary central defenders. These two must be dominant in the air and quick to recover space when the opposition hits in behind. Because there are no full backs, these central defenders must hold the line and be ready to step up to intercept passes before the opponent can progress through the thirds.

The midfield is a crowded five man unit that controls the center of the pitch. Guilherme and Serginho form a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession when needed. Peter Zulj operates in the center to connect the defensive and attacking lines, driving forward with the ball to create central presence. On the flanks, Abduhamit Abdugheni and Liao Chengjian occupy the half spaces to provide width and support the press. This heavy midfield presence allows Changchun to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposing playmakers.

In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Lazar Rosic and Yuan Mingcheng act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create goal scoring chances. They often pull wide to isolate a one on one situation against the opponent's full backs. Wang Zifeng plays as a pressing centre forward, tasked to pin the last defender and find the feet of the striker through quick combinations. The goal is to use the wide players to spread wide and then strike through the middle.

One major advantage for Changchun is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play short from the back. The numerical superiority in midfield allows them to win the second ball and keep the opposition pinned in their own half. This formation also creates many chances to counter at pace once the midfield unit wins the ball back.

This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk high reward system focused on aggressive ball winning. It is best suited for matches where Changchun can exploit a slow opponent through rapid transitions and heavy pressing.
