HLJ Ice City Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Lu Ning · Yujie Zhang · Daciel · Zhao Chengle · Li Xiaoting · Zhou Pinxi · Fan Bojian · Ma Yujun · Zimin Zhang · Italo Montano · Allan PaulistaHLJ Ice City focuses on a direct and vertical style of play using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to hit the opposition quickly once the ball is won, relying on heavy pressing and wide service to stretch the play. The team looks to bypass the middle of the pitch to find their two forwards as fast as possible.
Lu Ning stands between the posts to command the area and organize the defensive line. The back four functions as a flat defensive block, with Li Xiaoting and Yujie Zhang operating as full backs who look to provide width. Daciel and Zhao Chengle play as central defenders, tasked with winning the second ball and clearing the lines when under pressure. This defensive unit works to maintain a compact shape and deny space between the lines.
In the center of the pitch, HLJ Ice City utilizes a two man midfield with Ma Yujun and Fan Bojian. Ma Yujun works to shield the defense and recycle possession, while Fan Bojian looks to carry the ball forward and link the defensive and attacking units. The midfield quartet is completed by Zhou Pinxi on the left and Zimin Zhang on the right, both of whom are required to track back and cover the wide areas. These wide midfielders help to compress the midfield when the team sits deep in a mid block.
The attack features a partnership of two forwards, Italo Montano and Allan Paulista. Italo Montano acts as the primary striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender, while Allan Paulista operates as a second striker to make runs in behind. The team builds play through the flanks, looking to whip it in for the forwards or find the feet of the striker in tight spaces. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, the forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball.
One major strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers. The two central midfielders also provide the ability to press in pairs, making it difficult for the opponent to play out from the back. This makes the team very dangerous during transitions where they can quickly spread wide to exploit gaps.
This 4-4-2 formation provides a balanced way to defend in a mid block while remaining a threat on the counter. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
