SH Port looks to control games through a high press and aggressive verticality with a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in their own half by using a heavy concentration of players in the middle and high up the pitch. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately threaten the goal with numbers in the final third.

Gustavo stays between the posts as the lone goalkeeper, acting as a sweeper behind the defensive line. Matias Vargas and Will Donkin form a two man back line that sits very high to squeeze the space. Because there are only two central defenders, they must be ready to step up and intercept through balls or cover the space if the opposition hits in behind on the transition. They must defend zonally and be prepared to engage attackers early to prevent them from turning toward the goal.

The midfield unit is the engine of SH Port, operating in a dense block to dominate the center. Leo Cittadini and Oscar act as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and recycle possession. Matheus Jussa sits just ahead of them to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often acting as a carrier to move the ball from deep. Li Shuhai and Wang Zhenao occupy the half spaces as attacking midfielders, looking to play through the lines and find pockets of space between the opposition midfield and defense.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Wei Zhen and Tyias Browning play as wide wingers who spread wide to stretch the defence, while Yan Junling acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the line. The wingers look to cut inside to create room for the attacking midfielders, while Yan Junling works to hold up the ball and link up play with the runners coming from deep. This front three aims to create constant pressure and force the opposition into mistakes.

One major advantage of this SH Port formation is the numerical superiority in the central areas, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The intense pressure from the midfield and front three allows the team to win the second ball and launch quick attacks. Additionally, the wide players combined with the attacking midfielders create constant overloads that can isolate defenders in one on one situations.
