SH Shenhua Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Bao Yaxiong · Jiang Shenglong · Zhu Shenjie · Wilson Manafa · Shinichi Chan · Ibrahim Amadou · Xu Haoyang · Joao Carlos Teixeira · Dai Wai Tsun · Andre Luis · Cephas MaleleSeeking to dominate with high intensity and verticality, SH Shenhua employs a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to press from the front and hit teams in transition through heavy numbers in the final third. By committing so many players forward, the team looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and move quickly toward the goal.
Bao Yaxiong stays between the posts to manage the defensive line during moments of pressure. The back line consists of a narrow two man unit with Jiang Shenglong and Zhu Shenjie acting as central defenders. These two must hold a high line and be ready to cover large spaces behind them, as there are no full backs to offer wide cover. They focus on winning headers and clearing the lines when the opposition tries to bypass the initial press.
The midfield functions as a box to control the center of the pitch. Wilson Manafa and Shinichi Chan work as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. They sit in front of the two center backs to deny the pivot of the opposition and pick up runners. Further forward, Xu Haoyang and Ibrahim Amadou operate in the half spaces to connect the midfield to the attack. They carry the ball forward and look to play through the lines to feed the front four.
The attacking unit is incredibly aggressive with four players positioned high. Joao Carlos Teixeira and Dai Wai Tsun act as wide attackers to stretch the defence, with Teixeira looking to cut inside and Dai Wai Tsun to provide width. In the center, Cephas Malele and Andre Luis operate as a partnership of two forwards. They work to pin the last defender and look for runs in behind or link up play between the lines to create scoring chances.
This formation offers significant numerical superiority in the attacking zones, making it difficult for opponents to track every runner. SH Shenhua can create massive wide overloads by pushing the midfield players out of their central positions. The high volume of attackers also allows the team to press in coordinated waves, forcing long balls from the opposition.
The 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system focused on heavy attacking pressure. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against a side that sits deep.
