Starting Lineup

He often drives forward to support the attack. Prass and Laimer provide the width in the midfield, with Laimer using his pressing intensity to squeeze the space and win the ball back. This four man midfield block helps to bridge the gap between the two defenders and the four attackers.

Up front, the team uses a heavy front four to pin the last defender of the opposition. Lienhart and Pentz play as a central duo, where Lienhart can hold up the ball to bring others into play. Danso and Wöber act as wide attackers, often looking to cut inside to create more central presence. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the team to hit in behind on the transition. By spreading wide with Danso and Wöber, the team can also stretch the defense to create gaps for Lienhart and Pentz to exploit.

A significant strength for Austria is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very hard for opponents to play out from the back. The numerical superiority in the attacking third creates constant chaos for the opposition. Furthermore, the speed of transition is a huge factor, as the team can bypass the midfield and go direct to the front four the moment they win the second ball.
