The midfield functions with TONALI acting as the primary shield to protect the centre backs. BARELLA works alongside him, using his pressing intensity to hunt for the ball and carry the ball forward. DI MARCO and BELLANOVA occupy the wide areas, acting as attacking wingbacks who provide the necessary width. DI MARCO is known to overlap the winger and deliver crosses, while BELLANOVA pushes high to support the attack. FRATTESI plays as an attacking ten, looking to arrive late into the box and link the midfield to the front two.

Two forwards lead the line with SCAMACCA and CHIESA operating as a partnership. CHIESA uses his dribbling to cut inside and create chaos in the half spaces, while SCAMACCA plays as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender.
