Cheonan focuses on a direct and aggressive attacking identity using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to pin the opposition back and create constant pressure in the final third. By committing many players forward, Cheonan looks to overwhelm the defensive line and strike quickly when they win the ball high up the pitch.

Kang Jeong Mook guards the goal as the last line of defense. In front of him, a flat back four maintains a high line to squeeze the space. Jang Seong Jae and Ma Sang Hoon act as the central defenders, tasked to win the header and cover the space behind the full backs. Goo Dae Young and Oh Hyun Gyo operate as wide defenders, ready to push up and support the attack or track back to defend the flanks. The defensive unit must stay compact to avoid being caught on the break.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a base for the team. Yoon Yong Ho and Lee Kwang Jin work to shield the defence and recycle possession. One of them often drops deep to receive from the centre backs, while the other tries to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. These two players are vital to connect the defensive unit with the heavy front line, ensuring the transition from defence to attack remains quick.

The attacking unit consists of four players designed to stretch the defence. Paulo Henrique and Jung Seok Hwa act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to pull the opposition full backs out of position. In the centre, Bruno Mota and Erikys operate as a strike partnership. Erikys and Bruno Mota work to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind the defensive line. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, allowing the midfield to win the second ball.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of attacking numbers. Cheonan can create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers, making it difficult for opponents to defend the flanks. The heavy presence of four attackers also allows for intense pressing in coordinated waves, which can disrupt the build up of the opponent. If the midfield can control the center, the team can easily hit in behind on the transition.

The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system centered on offensive dominance. It is best suited for games where Cheonan needs to break down a deep block or needs to chase a result against a less aggressive opponent.
