River looks to play with high intensity and verticality using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup aims to pin the opposition in their own half and overwhelm them with constant pressure and direct attacking movements. The goal is to play high up the pitch and keep the ball in the final third to create constant goal scoring chances.

Ledesma plays between the posts to act as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a two man central defense with Paulo and Pezzella. Pezzella is dominant in the air and provides leadership at the back. These two central defenders play in a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. They must be ready to cover wide areas when the team pushes up, acting as a sweeping line to catch any long balls played over the top.

The midfield unit uses a four man block to control the center of the pitch. Peña and Villagra form a central pairing where Villagra works to win the second ball and Peña looks to carry the ball forward. On the flanks, Santanna and Carboni occupy the wide areas to provide width and support the attack. This midfield group works to intercept passes and immediately look to progress through the thirds to find the attackers.

In the attacking phase, River utilizes four forwards to stretch the defense. Bareiro and Borja operate as two forwards in a partnership, with Borja acting as a clinical presence in the box while Bareiro works to hold up the ball and link play. Echeverri and Mastantuono act as wide attackers who cut inside to create chaos in the half spaces. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition and win the ball back high up the pitch.

This formation offers significant advantages through numerical superiority in the attacking third. By having four players close to the opposition defense, River can create wide overloads and force defenders into difficult one on one situations. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it very hard for opponents to build play out from the back without making mistakes.

This 2-4-4 lineup is built for heavy attacking pressure and high risk rewarded football. It is best suited for games where River needs to break down a deep sitting defense or dominate an opponent through sheer volume of attacks.
