Starting Lineup

PONA · GUILLE · MATIAS · CHINO · JOACO · THOMI · PANA · SANTI · TITO · FACU · NAHUE

Monza looks to be hard to beat by staying compact and using quick transitions to exploit spaces. This 5-3-2 formation is built to defend a low block and then strike with immense speed. The team focuses on defensive stability and verticality to catch opponents out of position.

PONA guards the goal as the goalkeeper. The defence works as a back five where THOMI sits in the middle to win the header and cover the other defenders. MATIAS and GUILLE play as the wide centre backs to step up and intercept passes. CHINO and JOACO serve as attacking wing backs to spread wide and provide depth during the attack. This unit defends zonally to keep the block tight and hold the line.

The midfield consists of a three man unit to bridge the gap between defence and attack. TITO operates as an attacking ten to support the strikers and find space between the lines. SANTI and PANA act as the central pair to shield the defence. PANA can carry the ball forward to progress through the thirds, while SANTI looks to press aggressively in a mid block. They work to win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the team organised.

The front line features a partnership of two forwards, NAHUE and FACU. NAHUE acts as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition build up, while FACU plays to run in behind. They combine in tight spaces and look to hit in behind on the transition. CHINO and JOACO push high to provide width, allowing the strikers to attack the near post or far post from crosses delivered from the byline.

This formation provides clear advantages through wide overloads and compactness. When CHINO and JOACO push up, they create extra numbers on the flanks to assist the attackers. The presence of TITO, SANTI, and PANA allows the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition players. This makes it hard for the opponent to play through the lines or find space in the centre.

Monza uses this 5-3-2 to maintain a solid defensive block and strike on the break. It is a formation best used against teams that play with high lines and high possession.
