Starting Lineup

PONA · GUILLE · CHINO · JOACO · TITO · MATIAS · FACU · SANTI · NAHUEL · THOMI · PANA

Monza relies on a lineup designed for defensive solidity and quick transitions, utilizing a 5-3-2 formation. The team focuses on sitting deep and absorbing pressure to create opportunities to hit in behind the opposition defense. This formation is built to remain compact and catch opponents off guard during a quick break.

PONA maintains the goal while the defensive unit works to keep a clean sheet. The back five features THOMI, MATIAS, and GUILLE. THOMI stays central to win the header and clear the lines, while MATIAS and GUILLE provide cover to protect the space behind. CHINO and JOACO act as attacking wing backs, ready to push high to provide width. When the team sits deep, they form a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of attacking players.

In the center, the midfield is a three-man midfield with TITO operating as an attacking ten. PANA and SANTI work to shield the defense and press in a mid-block to win the second ball. They connect the defensive and attacking lines to recycle possession or break the line with vertical passes. TITO sits in the hole, looking to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines to find the forwards.

The attack relies on a partnership between NAHUEL and FACU. These two forwards press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the opposition buildup. NAHUEL often plays to hold up the ball, while FACU looks to make runs in behind the defenders. CHINO and JOACO support the front two by overlapping the wide areas, allowing the team to spread wide and whip it in toward the box.

A primary strength of this Monza lineup is the ability to maintain a compact block when sitting in a low block. This makes it extremely difficult for opponents to find space in the central areas. Additionally, the formation allows for great speed of transition. Once the midfield wins the ball, they can quickly switch play or go direct to the forwards to counter at pace.

This 5-3-2 formation is a resilient system that relies on defensive discipline and rapid counter-attacks. It is best suited for games against teams that hold more possession, allowing Monza to sit deep and hit in behind.
