Hamburg Football Formation
Starting Lineup
MATHEO (RAAB) · LUDOVIT (REIS) · STEPHAN (AMBROSIUS) · GUILHERME (RAMOS) · MIRO (MUHEIM) · LUKASZ (POREBA) · JONAS (MEFFERT) · LASZLO (BÉNES) · RANSFORD (KÖNIGSDÖRFFER) · ROBERT (GLATZEL) · JEAN-LUC (DOMPE)Hamburg plays with a high press and a vertical style of football using a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move through the thirds with speed. The goal is to squeeze the space and keep the team compact to force the opposition into mistakes.
MATHEO stands in goal to organize the back line. The team uses a flat back four that can step up to set the offside trap. LUDOVIT and MIRO play as attacking full backs who look to overlap the winger and provide width. In the center, GUILHERME and STEPHAN defend the box. GUILHERME works as a ball playing defender to play short from the back, while STEPHAN is there to win the header and cover the space behind his partner.
The midfield consists of a three man midfield where LASZLO operates in the left central midfield role to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while LUKASZ plays in the right central midfield position to shield the defense and pick up runners. JONAS acts as the central carrier to drive forward with the ball and recycle possession. This group works to compress the midfield and win the second ball to keep the pressure high.
Three attackers occupy the front line to stretch the defence. JEAN-LUC and RANSFORD play as inverted wingers who cut inside to create space for the wide defenders. ROBERT acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the hunt and pin the last defender. The team builds the attack by using the width of the pitch and looking for runs in behind. When the team enters the final third, JEAN-LUC and RANSFORD look to get to the byline and deliver early crosses or cut it back for the midfielders.
The lineup offers several tactical advantages, including the ability to press high in coordinated waves. With ROBERT, JEAN-LUC, and RANSFORD all pressing from the front, the team can win it back high up the pitch. Another benefit is the wide overloads that occur when LUDOVIT and MIRO push up. This creates the chance to isolate wide players in one on one situations or use third man runs to break the lines.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on intense pressing and quick transitions to dominate matches. It is best suited for games against teams that prefer to build slowly from the back.
