Toluca looks to dominate games through a high press and rapid verticality with this 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to suffocate opponents in their own half and use heavy numbers in the middle of the pitch to control the tempo. By playing with a very high line, the team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately attack the space behind the opposition defence.

Ángel stays between the posts to manage the space behind the high defensive line. The central defenders, Obi and Max, act as the primary pillars of the backline, needing to be ready to sweep behind the high line if the press is bypassed. Because there are only two central defenders, they must be ready to step up into midfield to intercept passes or track runners. This defensive unit functions as a coordinated block that relies on the midfield to squeeze the space and prevent direct balls from reaching the strikers.

The midfield is the engine room for Toluca, utilizing a five man unit to control the central areas. Michell and John operate as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Ahead of them, Brayan, Isacc, and Emanuel occupy the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Brayan and Emanuel act as inverted eight players who can drive forward with the ball or make late runs into the box. Isacc works to link play and recycle possession, ensuring the team can move the ball from the deep pivot players to the front three.

The attacking trio consists of three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Isidro acts as the pressing centre forward, working to pin the last defender and win headers. On the flanks, Juan and Cuate operate as wide wingers who pull wide to provide width before cutting inside to create goalscoring chances. This front line is designed to attack in combinations, using quick one two passes to split the defence with a through ball. The movement of Juan and Cuate allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations during transitions.

This formation offers massive numerical superiority in midfield, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. The heavy presence of Isacc, Brayan, and Emanuel allows Toluca to compress the midfield and trigger a press in waves. Additionally, the wide presence of Juan and Cuate creates constant threats to switch play and find space on the flanks.
