SK Sturm Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Prass · Gazibegovic · Lavalee · Wüthrich · Scherpen · Horvat · Gorenc Stankovic · Wlodarczyk · Kiteishvili · Bøving · ZvonarekSK Sturm plays with a high intensity that relies on heavy pressure and central control. The team uses a 2-5-3 formation to dominate the pitch. This lineup is built to squeeze the opponent and dictate the tempo of the game through overwhelming presence in the middle.
Scherpen acts as the last line of defence in goal. The back line consists of two central defenders, Lavalee and Wüthrich, who must play a high line to keep the team compact. These two must be ready to cover huge amounts of space behind them and intercept long balls. They defend zonally and need to be alert to pick up runners in behind. Because the formation lacks traditional full backs, the defensive unit relies on the midfielders to drop back and cover wide areas.
The midfield is the core of the SK Sturm formation. Prass and Gazibegovic work as a double pivot to shield the defenders and win the second ball. Ahead of them, Horvat and Gorenc Stankovic operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Kiteishvili plays as an attacking ten, sitting behind the forwards to create chances and play through the lines. This five man midfield allows the team to recycle possession and move the ball effectively between the thirds.
In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Wlodarczyk acts as the striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. On the flanks, Bøving and Zvonarek act as wide attackers to provide width and pull defenders out of position. They look to get to the byline and whip it in toward the middle. The movement between Kiteishvili and the front three creates chances for players to arrive late into the box or play a one two to break the line.
This formation provides massive numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By packing the center, the team can win it back high up the pitch and strike quickly. The ability to press in pairs makes it very difficult for the opposition to play out from the back. This allows for quick transitions and the ability to isolate wide players in one on one situations.
This 2-5-3 formation is a high risk lineup designed for total dominance. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to pin the opponent into a low block and control the game through central congestion.
