Chelsea aims to dominate through a high press and rapid verticality using a 3-3-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by keeping as many players as possible near the opponent's goal. The tactical intent is to win the ball high up the pitch and hit the opposition before they can organize their defensive lines.

The goalkeeper starts the build up from the back. In front, a back three provides a solid foundation. Colwill acts as a ball playing centre back to progress the ball. Fofana provides aerial strength and covers the right side, while Chillwell occupies the left side of the trio. This defensive unit tends to step up to squeeze the space and set the offside trap when Chelsea plays with a high line.

A three man midfield provides the engine for this system. Caicedo plays as the attacking ten, pushing high to press from the front and disrupt the opponent. James operates in the right central midfield role, often looking to carry the ball forward into advanced areas. The left central midfield role completes the trio to help connect the defence to the attack and recycle possession when the front four are marked out of the game.

The attacking line is incredibly aggressive with four players across the front. Sterling plays as a wide winger on the left, looking to cut inside and create chances. Nkunku operates on the right wing with his dribbling style to isolate defenders one on one. Enzo plays as a striker in a more advanced role to link up play between the lines. The second striker stays central to pin the last defender and provides a target for crosses and through balls.

One major advantage for Chelsea is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The formation also allows for massive wide overloads when James and Nkunku combine to stretch the defence. By playing with four attackers, the team can effectively isolate wide players in one on one situations and force many turnovers in the attacking third.

This 3-3-4 formation is designed for extreme offensive pressure and quick transitions. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play under intense pressure or those that sit deep in a low block.
