Newell's focuses on a high press and rapid transitions through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use verticality to catch opponents off guard. The team seeks to stay compact and move as a single unit to squeeze the space available to the opposition.
S. Cejas guards the goal as the team operates with a high line. The back four consists of N. Reasco at right back and R. Damiani at left back, both tasked with supporting the attack and pushing up the flanks. In the center, F. Crosa and J.P. Vojvoda act as the central defenders, with Crosa often tasked to be dominant in the air and Vojvoda acting as the covering defender to sweep behind the line. This defensive unit works to stay high to keep the team compact.
The midfield operates with a single pivot and two much more advanced players. L. Ponzio sits in the pivot role to shield the defence and pick up runners from deep. Beside him, L. Bernardi and D. Manso operate as the central midfielders who drive forward with the ball to link the lines. L. Bernardi and D. Manso are responsible for pressing aggressively to win the ball high and then carrying the ball into the final third to connect the defence to the attack.
In the attacking third, Newell's utilizes three attackers across the front. N. Pavlovich acts as the lone striker, playing as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. On the wings, M. Rodríguez and M. Rosales operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. This setup allows for M. Rodríguez and M. Rosales to isolate defenders in one on one situations or look for cutbacks from the byline once they reach the final area.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the front three and the midfield trio all working to force turnovers near the opponent's goal. The team also creates wide overloads when N. Reasco and R. Damiani push up to overlap the wingers. This creates a lot of pressure on the opposition flanks and allows for quick combinations in tight spaces.
This 4-3-3 formation is a high intensity system designed to dominate through pressing. It is best suited for games where the opponent struggles to play out from the back under pressure.
