Al-Hilal (KSA) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Mitrović · Michael · Serjej · Malcom · Kanno · Neves · Lodi · Koulibaly · Al-Bulaihi · Abdulhamid · BonoAl-Hilal focuses on high pressing and rapid transitions in a 4-2-4. This lineup aims to overwhelm opponents in the final third by committing many players forward. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and strike before the opposition can recover.
Bono starts between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line operates as a flat back four with Abdulhamid acting as an attacking full back to provide width. Koulibaly serves as a dominant force in the air and a ball playing defender to initiate play. Al-Bulaihi works alongside him to cover space and maintain the defensive line. Lodi pushes high up the left flank to support the attack, which leaves the central defenders to defend in a more isolated manner when the team loses possession.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to provide balance. Neves acts as a deep lying playmaker who seeks to find passes that break the line. He uses his passing range to move the ball from deep positions. Kanno works as a carrier who tries to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win it back high up the pitch. Together, they must protect the center of the pitch and prevent counter attacks while attempting to connect the defense to the heavy front four.
Al-Hilal utilizes four attackers to stretch the defense. Mitrović acts as a physical target man who can hold up the ball and win headers. Serjej plays as a second striker in the hole to find pockets of space between the lines. On the flanks, Michael and Malcom operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to shoot or combine in tight spaces. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations through constant movement.
One major advantage for Al-Hilal is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers. The team also benefits from extreme speed of transition when they win the ball in the middle third. By pinning the last defender with the two central forwards, they create space for the wide players to enter the box.
This 4-2-4 formation is built to dominate games through sheer attacking numbers and pressing intensity. It is best suited for matches where Al-Hilal needs to break down a parked bus or overwhelm a less technical opponent.
