In the final third, Atlético deploy two forwards in a partnership. A.Morata acts as a physical presence to hold up the ball and pin the last defender, allowing others to make runs in behind. A.Griezmann operates as a second striker in the hole, frequently dropping deeper to link the midfield and attack. Griezmann uses his exceptional passing range to split the defence with through balls. The wing backs, N.Molina and S.Lino, overlap the attackers to create wide overloads. This creates a variety of attacking combinations, moving from a narrow central presence to wide play in transition.
