PSG aims to play a high press with a heavy focus on verticality through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike immediately with a massive front four. Gianluigi Donnarumma stands between the posts to command the area and sweep behind a high line. The back four consists of Achraf Hakimi as the right back and Beraldo playing as the left back. Marquinhos sits as the right centre back while D.Pereira occupies the left centre back spot. Marquinhos provides leadership and aerial strength in the box, while Hakimi often pushes up to support the attack. The defensive unit must hold a high line to squeeze the space and compress the pitch when the team loses possession.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide a base for the attacking players. Vitinha acts as a deep lying playmaker with a wide passing range to recycle possession and switch play. Warren Z-Emery works alongside him to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. This pairing must stay disciplined to protect the center of the pitch and cover for the marauding full backs. They are tasked with winning the second ball and finding the feet of the forwards quickly.

PSG uses a massive front four to pin the last defender and stretch the defence. Bradley Barcola stays wide on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside, while Randal Kolo Muani operates on the right wing. Marco Asensio and Gonçalo Ramos lead the line as a two man forward partnership. Ramos acts as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opposition. These four attackers look to combine in tight spaces or knock it in behind the defense during transitions.

This formation offers immense pressure on the opposition back line through its sheer numbers in the final third. The team can create wide overloads when Hakimi and Beraldo push up to overlap the wingers. PSG also benefits from a high press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The speed of transition is a key advantage when the double pivot wins the ball and immediately finds the front four.
