Starting Lineup

Okocha · Alex · Yusuf Şimşek · Emre Mor · Appiah · Aurelio · Santos · KMJ · KJaer · GG · Rüştü

Fenerbahçe relies on a heavy press and quick transitions within a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents before they can settle. The team looks to disrupt the rhythm of the opposition through high energy and collective movement.

Okocha stands between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back four functions as a flat back four that stays relatively compact. Appiah acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back, while Alex provides cover to sweep behind the line when the press is bypassed. Emre Mor plays as an attacking full back on the left to provide width, whereas Yusuf Şimşek stays more disciplined to hold the line on the right side.

The midfield is a five man unit designed to control the center and protect the defense. Aurelio and Santos act as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. In front of them, GG and KMJ play as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often drifting into half spaces to find pockets of room. KJaer operates in the center to carry the ball forward and win the second ball in the middle of the park.

Rüştü operates as a lone striker to lead the line and press the opposition back line. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to push up and join the attack. The wide players and attacking midfielders look to support him by making runs in behind or arriving late into the box. Fenerbahçe aims to use the movement of the midfielders to create combinations that split the defence with a through ball.

This formation offers a massive advantage in terms of compactness when defending in a mid-block. The five man midfield makes it very hard for opponents to play through the lines. Fenerbahçe can also use the width provided by Emre Mor to create wide overloads, allowing the team to stretch the defence and find space in the middle.

The 4-5-1 is a disciplined formation built for high pressing and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games where the team needs to deny the pivot of the opponent and strike quickly on the transition.
