Starting Lineup

SK Rapid focuses on a direct and aggressive style of play with a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup aims to overwhelm the opposition through heavy numbers in the attacking third and rapid transitions. The team looks to strike quickly once the ball is won, utilizing a heavy front line to pin the opposition back.

Hedl stays between the posts to guard the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit consists of a two man back line with Raux Yao and Cvetkovic acting as the central defenders. They must play with a very high line to compress the space in the middle of the pitch. Cvetkovic and Raux Yao are required to stay compact and cover the wide areas when the midfield pushes forward. Because there are only two defenders, they must be dominant in the air and fast enough to track runners in behind.

The midfield works in a central block to control the tempo and win the ball. Böckle and Bolla operate as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and protect the center of the pitch. They need to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly to the attacking players. Ahead of them, Oswald and Grgic occupy the half spaces as attacking midfielders. Oswald and Grgic drive forward to support the front four, helping to connect the defense to the attack and providing extra passing options in the final third.

In the attacking phase, SK Rapid employs four forwards to stretch the opposition defense. Beljo and Druijf act as a central partnership, providing a dual threat in the box. They work to hold up the ball and link with the wide players. Seidl and Jansson stay wide to provide width, with Seidl cutting inside to create space for overlaps. This front four can press the opposition back line intensely to force mistakes. The goal is to create combinations in tight spaces or deliver crosses to the two central strikers.

The main advantage of this SK Rapid formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking zones. By pushing four players high, they can isolate defenders and create many scoring opportunities.
