Roma aims to overwhelm opponents with a high intensity game centered on a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup focuses on aggressive attacking play and heavy pressure high up the pitch to force mistakes. By pushing many players forward, the team looks to dominate the final third and create constant threats through heavy numbers in the box.

Svilar operates between the posts to organize the defense. Behind the midfield, Mancini and Ndicka form a narrow back two that must stay highly disciplined. Mancini acts as a dominant presence in the air, while Ndicka provides cover to sweep behind the high line. Because there are only two central defenders, they must squeeze the space and step up to prevent long balls from bypassing the initial press.

The midfield works as a box to control the center of the pitch. Paredes acts as the deep lying playmaker, looking to recycle possession and find teammates with a wide passing range. Next to him, Le Fée works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward and pressing aggressively to win the ball high. Bellanova and Angeliño operate as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width, pushing high to overlap the wingers and whip crosses into the area.

In the attacking phase, Roma utilizes four players across the front line to stretch the defence. Dybala plays as an inverted winger on the right, cutting inside to create chances or find the feet of the strikers. On the left, Chiesa acts as an inverted winger who looks to drive at defenders and hit in behind on the transition. Pellegrini and Dallinga operate as a central partnership, with Pellegrini often dropping deeper to link play while Dallinga acts as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender.

A major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build out from the back. The team creates wide overloads by having Bellanova and Angeliño push up alongside the wingers, effectively pinning the opposition full backs. This heavy presence in the final third allows the club to create many chances through rapid combinations in tight spaces.

This 2-4-4 formation is built for a high risk high reward style of play. Roma will find success against teams that struggle to play under pressure and cannot exploit the space left behind their high press.
