Roma looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and play with high intensity using a 2-4-4. This formation is built to play a high pressing game that seeks to overwhelm the opponent in their own half. By committing so many bodies forward, Roma aims to dominate the attacking third and create constant pressure on the opposition defense.

Svilar acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very aggressive back two. Mancini and Ndicka form a central pair of defenders who must play in a high line to keep the team compact. Mancini provides aerial strength and physical presence to win the second ball, while Ndicka works to cover space behind the line. Because there are only two central defenders, they must be ready to step up and intercept passes to prevent long balls from bypassing the midfield.

The midfield operates as a central block that connects the defense to the front four. Paredes acts as a single pivot to shield the defense, using his passing range to recycle possession and find teammates. Le Fée plays alongside him to drive forward with the ball and link the lines. On the flanks, Bellanova and Angeliño function as wide midfielders who provide width and support the attack. Bellanova can push forward to overlap, while Angeliño seeks to deliver crosses from the left side.

The attacking lineup features four players positioned to split the defense. Dybala and Chiesa play as wide attackers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Dybala uses his dribbling style to find space in tight areas, while Chiesa looks to hit in behind on the transition. In central roles, Pellegrini and Dallinga act as a partnership to occupy the defenders. Pellegrini can drop into the hole to link play, while Dallinga acts as a presence to hold up the ball and allow others to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through extreme offensive pressure. Roma creates wide overloads when Bellanova and Angeliño push high to support the wingers. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This heavy presence in the final third forces opponents into mistakes and allows Roma to win the ball back in dangerous areas.

The 2-4-4 is a high risk, high reward lineup that relies on quick recovery. It is best suited for games where Roma needs to break down a team that sits deep in a low block.
