Starting Lineup

Rosario Central plays with a focus on defensive stability and quick transitions in a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and wait for the right moment to break quickly. The team looks to stay compact in a mid block to frustrate the opposition before using the width of the field to attack.

Broun guards the goal for Rosario Central. The defense uses a back five that provides plenty of cover across the width of the pitch. Ibarra sits in the center to sweep behind the line and win headers. Mallo and Barbieri act as the wide centre backs to provide extra support and step up to intercept passes. Coronel and Sández operate as attacking wing backs who push high up the pitch to support the forwards. They must be ready to track back and defend zonally when the ball is lost.

In the center of the pitch, Martínez and O'Connor form a double pivot. This duo is responsible for shielding the defense and winning the second ball. Martínez often works to carry the ball forward to progress through the thirds, while O'Connor focuses on recycling possession and cutting off the passing lane to the opposition attackers. They link the defensive unit to the front three by playing short from the back and finding the feet of the players in advanced positions.

The attacking unit consists of three players working in close combinations. Copetti operates as a lone striker who aims to hold up the ball and win headers against central defenders. Giaccone and Campaz play as wide wingers to stretch the defense. Giaccone prefers to stay wide to deliver crosses, while Campaz looks to cut inside to create more central presence. The movement of the wing backs allows for overlaps, which helps to create one on one situations for the attackers.

A primary strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Coronel and Sández push forward. This extra width forces the opposition to pull their players out of position. Another advantage is the ability to press in a mid block, where the five defenders and two midfielders can squeeze the space effectively. This makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines or find space between the units.
