Roma seeks to play with high intensity and heavy pressure using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch to create immediate chances against the opposition. The goal is to use overwhelming numbers in the final third to pin the last defender and force errors.

Svilar acts as the goalkeeper, sitting behind a very high line. The defensive unit relies on a central pair of Mancini and Ndicka to defend in a narrow defensive block. Mancini provides aerial strength and physical presence to clear the lines, while Ndicka covers the space behind to sweep behind the high line. Because there are only two central defenders, they must step up to engage attackers early and avoid being caught in a race.

The midfield works in a central block to squeeze the space and prevent easy progression. Paredes acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession when the ball is recovered. Beside him, Bellanova and Angeliño act as carriers who push forward to support the attack. Le Fée plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to play through the lines and find the feet of the attackers. This midfield group must work hard to track back and protect the two defenders during transitions.

In the attacking third, Roma employs four players to stretch the defence. Dybala operates as an inverted winger on the right, cutting inside to use his passing range and technical skill in tight spaces. On the left, Chiesa plays as an inverted winger who looks to drive at defenders and hit in behind on the transition. Pellegrini and Abraham operate as a two forwards in a partnership, with Abraham acting as a target man to win the header and hold up the ball. Pellegrini works to link up play between the lines and arrive late into the box.

This formation offers great ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it hard for opponents to build from the back. Roma can create wide overloads by having Bellanova and Angeliño push high, which helps to isolate wide players in one on one situations. The sheer number of players in the attacking zone allows the team to dominate the final third when they win the second ball.

The 2-4-4 formation focuses on aggressive pressing and rapid offensive movement. It is best suited for games where Roma can dominate possession and force the opponent into a low block.
